A new Family Hub is set to open in Romford, providing vital support for local children and families.
St Kilda's Children's Centre on Eastern Road has been selected as the primary site for this new initiative. The centre will offer a range of services, including parenting sessions and home learning programmes, specifically designed to support early childhood development and give children the best possible start in life.
The project is supported by a £153,000 grant from the Department for Education, which will be used to enhance existing facilities and introduce new services starting from April 2026.
Supporting our community
The location was chosen by the Council due to its accessibility and its position within an area where these services are most needed.
Councillor Oscar Ford, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, commented:
“This is the first of a number of hubs planned for the borough and it will provide parenting support and home learning programmes for families in order to improve children's outcomes in early childhood.
Our aim is to ensure children reach their expected development levels. By ensuring earlier interventions, our hope is that we will reduce the risk of adverse childhood experiences that some young people face, so we can improve the opportunities and life chances of the next generation.”
Satellite services
To ensure support reaches as many families as possible during the initial phase, Ingrebourne Children's Centre and the myplace youth centre—both located in Harold Hill—will act as satellite hubs. This will help bridge the gap for families living further afield from the main site.
We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available regarding the official opening and how families can access these new services.
